That night I got a call that I won. Holy sh**! I won something. She couldn't tell me on the phone what it was - just that it was jewelry. I was so friggin excited! Bling, bling, I hit the jackpot. Mama was gettin herself a new pair of diamonds. Wait, was there diamonds? I couldn't remember. That was the problem - I could NOT remember what things I saw or put tickets in for but it must have been something awesome if I put a ticket in the jar for it.
I wait in eager anticipation the whole following day - even leaving work early so I could go collect my grand prize - something by that point, I was describing to people as the Hope Diamond. When I get to the school gym, the receptionist leads me into a room and says here's the "prize room". There's a bunch of small trinkets left on the table, a purse, a set of towels, and there amongst it is my prize, my jewelry - a piece of string, slung together with hard plastic pastel beads that have been fastened with what looks like crazy glue, and it's covered in mermaid stickers. I actually thought at first she was joking. But no, that was it, that was my winnings - a necklace designed by the likes of a homeless person.
Oh well, it could have been worse like winning a oil painting of Mussolini or something...that would suck. I still won something. Yep - I'm a winner!
